So, what about Stoneladder?
I am a freelance web service administrator, a crew of one, managing all aspects of having a website from design to hosting. The overwhelming principle that I adhere to is that a website's function is to provide information, and the pathway to that information needs to be clear and uncluttered. Navigation should be obvious and easy, or the people you are trying to reach may just go elsewhere.
I handcode all of my work in strict adherence to html standards as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). What this means, in real terms, is that no matter which operating system or browser is used, such pages will consistently display as intended. It also ensures that search engines will find a document that makes structural, semantic sense which allows them to categorize and index the page appropriately. Standardized pages also degrade gracefully in the event that users happen to be browsing your site with older software, a text‐only browser or with certain, common plugins disabled or styling turned off. The users will still have meaningful access to your critical information.
What will it cost me?
The answer to this is as varied as your needs but, probably not as much as you think. I do this mainly out of passion for something I love doing.
