The Lionbear goal
Simply…To improve the Chow Chow breed!
Our philosophy here at Lionbear is to insist upon the health, well-being and longevity of our dogs.
We endeavor to consistently reproduce happy, well-adjusted Chows with stable, even dispositions.
We are not breeding to satisfy the current trend or to produce the next “super chow”. We actively test the health, including hips and elbows, of our breeding stock. We carefully plan breedings and measure improvements.
We certainly do keep in mind the standard and strive to breed that “ideal” Chow, but never at the expense of their health.
Lionbear environment
We are located on 10 acres of land in rural eastern Manitoba on the edge of the Sandilands Provincial Forest and close to the beautiful resort area of the Whiteshell Provincial Park.
Our Chow Chows breathe clean, country air, enjoy the sights and sounds of wildlife and have spacious kennels.
The Lionbear name
The name “Lionbear” is descriptive of what comes to mind when you first meet a Chow. I've heard children passing by ask their parents of my chow, “Is that a bear?” Others have been heard saying that the red chow looks like a lion. It is also unmistakable how “teddy bear like” chow puppies look.
Our Chow Chow's diet
At Lionbear Kennels we believe that diet is one of the most important elements in the development of a healthy and beautiful, well dispositioned Chow Chow. We take great care to ensure that our Chow Chows live healthy. We feed only whole and natural foods and suppliment their diet with the following:
- garlic
- cod liver oil
- omega 3 eggs
- acidophilus
- organic chicken or vegetable broths
- virgin coconut oil
- various greens and powders
